Restoring sexual function — and dignity
A specialist clinic for a subject too often left in silence
Sexology Specialist Clinic is a Nairobi-based practice dedicated to sexual medicine, sexuality education, research and policy advisory. We work with individuals, couples, communities and health providers across Kenya and the wider region to make sexual health a normal, evidence-based part of healthcare.
A world where the right to health includes sexual health.
To use scientific evidence to educate, treat and develop policy in human sexuality.
Why this work matters
The scale of the need — and the silence around it — is why the clinic exists.
An under-measured problem
The prevalence of sexual dysfunction is not exactly known in many communities. Previous studies give conflicting statistics — from as low as 30% to as high as 70% of people experiencing a sexual problem at some point in their lives.
Beyond dysfunction: guidance for everyone
Many people do not have a diagnosable sexual problem but still need guidance and reassurance to achieve a satisfying sex life — including people with diverse sexual orientations, sex workers, people with disabilities, and those living with chronic conditions such as cancer.
Stigma keeps people silent
Despite the need to make sexual health scientific and mainstream, stigma still surrounds the subject. Most people simply do not talk about sex, and many suffer in silence with serious mental and psychological consequences — a silence reinforced by the lack of clear policy to guide sexual health practice.
Too few trained providers
Stigma has also limited training: there are barely any accredited courses in sexual health, leaving very few trained service providers in sexual medicine. Sexology Specialist Clinic exists to close that gap — through direct care, education, research and policy work.
